HISTORY

Cradle of fine wines, San Martín de Unx is a small farming village nestled in the low mountains of Navarre. Its medieval streets are dotted with noble houses, remnants of old city walls, and traces of a Roman road.

1914

Founding of Bodegas San Martín

After several failed attempts, the winery was officially founded on July 5, 1914, under the name “Bodega Cooperativa de San Martín de Unx.” A total of 192 members took part in its creation.

1915

Challenging first year

The early days were tough. Due to import restrictions caused by World War I, uncertainty was overwhelming. Finally, in spring 1915, machinery arrived from France and production and export could begin

1985

Merger with Ilagares Winery

For decades, the residents of San Martín de Unx considered merging the town’s two cooperative wineries: Bodega Cooperativa San Martín and Unión de Cosecheros, the latter better known as Ilagares due to its location. The merger eventually came to pass, creating a much stronger winery.

2000

Move to new facilities

The winery had always been located in the center of the village. In 2000, a new facility was built to modernize production processes and improve accessibility.

2014

Centenary

Overcoming both joyful and difficult moments, the winery celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2014—becoming a national benchmark and sparking renewed motivation among its members and supporter.

2020

Agreement with Anecoop

After years of collaboration, an agreement was signed making Bodegas San Martín an official member of Anecoop, a second-tier cooperative and global leader in agricultural exports.
